History

Li’l Boxes started as an off shoot of Northern Pallets and Crates, one of Adelaide’s largest independent suppliers of pallets and custom-made timber crates for the logistics and manufacturing sector, founded in 2008. The specialised timber box packaging and display industry has grown since the inception of Li’l Boxes in 2011 and has now become the primary business…

Capabilities & Equipment

Since the early days as a sawmill and simple timber construction operation, technology has become an important story at Li’l Boxes.

Boasting SA’s largest number of nailing machines from the 1950’s which utilise tens of thousands of nails each year, to the modern CNC router which programme-cuts most of the display systems, to the laser cutter which can cut or etch a range of materials including solid timber, plywood, or acrylic, our blend of old and new technologies create products that will exceed expectation.

In addition to these we offer painting and staining processes, with all products quality tested, to ensure your project lasts the distance and performs long-term.

Our Clients

Our happy clients include some of Australia’s best and most trusted brands, across the food and beverage industries, fashion, retail, supermarkets, liquor stores, large and small wine brands or even cosmetics and beauty product brands. Here are just some of the quality brands who place their trust in Li’l Boxes and Out of the Box Displays:

Our People

Our old and new equipment is only as useful as the people who operate it, so it’s our highly experienced team who know how to plan and execute your project to solve your unique problems with innovative and effective solutions.

Whether it be the best way to package a valuable or tricky object, or the most efficient way to build a display with no fixings or complex construction, from a single piece of plywood, we relish the opportunity to flex our creative muscle and surprise you with the solutions.

The best part is, we really know timber… its properties, its strengths and weaknesses, so you can always rely on the best advice. We will suggest the best timber or timber treatments to ensure the finished product achieves the aesthetic and functional performance to exceed your expectations. If timber is not the right product, we will always let you know, and suggest another alternative, at the end of the day your satisfaction is our primary concern.

The company:

  • We are a family owned company in South Australia that has been in business for about 30 years; about 15 years in our family. We have a “buy local” policy and where possible we buy from our customers.
  • We have 108 solar panels generating 54kw of solar power and whilst that doesn’t always cover our power consumption, most days we are carbon neutral.
  • Our waste sawdust products are used mostly for animal bedding and our waste wood is mulched by us and used to make organic garden mulch.

The products:

  • “wet” pine – this is typically used in the manufacture of our rustic and vintage boxes and is made from plantation pine usually sourced from the Green Triangle area in lower southeast South Australia. This pine is not treated in any way and is “straight from the tree”. As the moisture content is often quite high, we generally dry this wood for about 24 hours to reduce the chances of mould growth.
  • “dry” pine – this is typically used in the manufacture of our presentation boxes and shop “furniture” pieces. We source “merchandise” grade material that is a reject product from the housing market. Typically this wood has too many knots or cracks for housing but we are able to work around the defects and make use of what is otherwise a scrap product.
  • “sheets” – these are the plywood sheets used to manufacture the stands, boxes and flat pack displays. These are cut from 100% plantation pine plywood.

The finishes:

  • “Vintage” finish – this is a spray on finish usually over our wet pine crates and is made by us using all-natural products and is 100% organic and safe near food etc.
  • Stain, varnish and paint– when used, it is 100% water-based and non-toxic.
